Nancy Smith – Lung Cancer Survivor

One Breath at a Time

Prior to her diagnosis, Nancy was a busy wife and mom to two boys. During the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014, she battled the flu and a persistent cough that just would not pass. After a visit to Urgent Care she was diagnosed with pneumonia. However after antibiotics, a followup scan showed that it was much more than just pneumonia. Nancy was diagnosed with Stage II Lung Cancer on February 5, 2014 requiring two lung surgeries and 8 rounds of chemotherapy. Although her blood levels did get low after surgery, she did not require any transfusions. However Nancy says “It was great to know that if I did need blood – it was available and for that I am very grateful. I think Mississippi Blood Services is a vital organization that helps many patients to get better – especially during a health crisis. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many.”
