FLOWOOD, Miss.—Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is joining with the NeuroSpine Center to hold its third annual 5K run and walk on April 5th, 2014. Proceeds from the event will help MBS build a new donor coach so we can save more lives in Mississippi. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the Build a Coach Campaign!
Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is a not-for profit organization whose mission is, in part, “…to collect, process and distribute safe volunteer donor blood and blood components….” We have three stand alone facilities and several hospital sites in which to do this; however, approximately 80 percent of our blood donations come from mobile blood drives, hence the need for Donor Coaches.
In 2013, Mississippi Blood Services collected over 69,000 units. However, it still fell short of hospital needs and we needed to import from other blood centers across the country. Our goal is to meet the needs of our state and surrounding areas without importing from other blood centers. In order to do this we need to continue to raise the public’s awareness for the need for blood donors. By participating in the Run for Blood 5K run and walk, you are helping to raise that awareness. Show your support by coming to Mississippi Blood Services on April 5th and letting everyone know the race for blood is on!
