To show our appreciation, MBS has teamed up with the Watson Quality Home Team for the 2010 Road to Life blood drive campaign. “Blood donors help many Mississippians get back on ‘the road to life’ and we want to return the favor by giving them the chance to get on the road in a brand new car,” Tony Bahou, manager of communications and public relations, said. “Blood donors are the driving force behind Mississippi Blood Services. | HOLIDAY HERO BLOOD DRIVE
FLOWOOD, Miss.—The holiday season comes with a rush of activity and hectic schedules. Many families go out of town to visit family and friends; school, church and community programs vie for attention; and shopping and decorating seem to squeeze what’s left of the day out of its last few minutes. Added to the mix are inclement winter weather and seasonal illnesses. It’s easy to see why blood donations drop. Unfortunately, the need for blood doesn’t slow down or take a holiday. If anything, the need for blood rises. Accidents increase with travel and bad weather and house fires increase due to the use of space heaters, fireplaces and candles.
Mississippi Blood Services’ (MBS) mission is to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply to its hospitals so that patients will have blood when they need it. We are asking our donors to think about those who are in need this year—those whose survival depends on blood donations. The gift you give will not cost you a dime, will not be returned for a different color or size and will last someone else a lifetime.
Come out to Dogwood Festival this Thursday, December 17, and Friday, December 18, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day and donate blood. Radio personalities from JACK FM, Mix 98.7, Y 101, US 96, Q 105, Z 106, MISS 103 and ROCK 93.9 will be broadcasting live throughout the blood drive. We’ll give you a free red T-shirt and register you for a chance to win prizes from supporting retailers. (We’ll even throw in Santa’s juice and cookies!)
Please put giving the gift of life on top of your “to do” list this holiday season and throughout the year. Someone’s depending on you. Maybe even someone you love. | | | |

 | Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Jackson MS - She may be someone’s spouse, mother, sister, aunt or cousin. She is someone’s “little girl.” She is one of the approximately 186,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer and she could be one of the approximately 41,000 who will die because of it. Help her win her battle against breast cancer, donate blood.
Our Breast Cancer Awareness month will be highlighted October 13th, 14th and 15th at our main center at 1995 Lakeland Dr. Jackson, MS 39216.
Tue: EJ Rivers from Mix 98.7 will be broadcasting live from 11-2.
Wed: Jan Michaels from Q105 will join us live from 11-2.
Thurs: Kim Allen from Miss 103 will be here live from 2-5.
How does donating blood help? Between the disease and treatments, the body’s ability to manufacture needed blood cells is greatly reduced. Cancer patients, including those with breast cancer, need blood and blood products to help combat this depletion so they can continue their treatments on a regular basis.
While donating blood on a regular basis gives many Mississippi hospital patients the gift of life, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. As such, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) would like to remind people that their donations are needed to help breast cancer patients fight against the disease. Donors who come into the drawing stations in Jackson, Greenville and Oxford will receive a commemorative pink T-shirt, while supplies last. (Gentlemen, you may not one but chances are your wife, girlfriend, mother or daughter will! So do it for her.)
Please go to the Donations page and click on the Donations icon or call 1 (888) 90-BLOOD (888 902 5663) to schedule your next appointment. Or just drop by the drawing station nearest you.

 | One Nation, One Cause, One Pint
JACKSON, Miss. — Firemen, policemen, doctors and nurses are counted as lifesaving heroes; but blood donors also perform a critical role. Many patients suffering from chronic illnesses, trauma and surgery require blood and/or blood products to heal, and in many cases, to survive. Blood donors come from every walk of life and from every demographic, but their commitment to their community sets them above the rest. When only 4 percent of the population donates blood on a regular basis, this gift is a rare find!
From September 9th-11th Mississippi Blood Services is honoring those first responders by holding its annual Patriots' Day Blood Drive. All donors who come into our Main Center at 1995 Lakeland Drive will receive a special commerative t-shirt plus a car magnet showing your support for our troops overseas by donating blood.
“Blood donors help save lives,” Tony Bahou, manager of communications and public relations, said. “The need for blood is on-going and by donating blood every 56 days, donors help many Mississippi hospital patients win for life.”
All donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID.
Mississippi Blood Services offers a “mini physical” before each donation to ensure the donation process is safe for the donor as well as the recipient.

 | MBS Hosts Its Annual Truckin for Blood Blood Drive
GREENVILLE, Miss. – Nearly 95 percent of the population will need blood at some point in their lives. However, the summer months usually signify a decline in blood donations. Children are out of school, families are on vacation and summertime activities take up the busy schedules of most people. Unfortunately, the need for blood never slows down. Mississippi Blood Services’ (MBS) mission is to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply to its hospitals so that patients will have blood when they need it.
Mississippi Blood Services will be holding its annual “Truckin’ for Blood” blood drive promotions on Wednesday, August 5 and Thursday, August 6 at the Greenville Drawing Station located in Bologna Mall on Highway 1, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. Come in to donate blood and get a chance to roll the dice to spell out “DONATE” and you could win a 2009 Nissan Frontier Truck.
“Truckin’ for Blood has always been a fun event at MBS,” said Rayetta Serio, MBS manager of the Greenville Drawing Station. “But the need for blood is serious. Mississippi hospitals need an average of 227 units a day. These units represent patients—someone’s loved one—who need blood. Blood donations literally could mean the difference between life and death for them.”
All donors must be at least 17-years-old (or 16 with signed parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID.
MBS offers a “mini physical” before each donation to ensure the donation process is safe for the donor as well as the recipient.
Please visit our Web site at www.msblood.com or call us at (888) 90-BLOOD (902-5663) to make your life-saving donation today. For more information about the upcoming blood drive, visit our Web site or call (662) 334-4400.

 | Donating Blood is a Rewarding Experience
JACKSON, Miss. – One donor can save up to three lives. To emphasize the point, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) in Jackson is making donating blood a “Rewarding Experience”. Throughout the month of June at the Main Center on Lakeland Drive, blood donors who come into the center will have receive a $10 restaurant rewards gift card good to use at Sal-N-Mookies, Bravo’s or Broadstreet Bakery restaurants.
“Offering our donors a restaurant gift card is a fun summer promotion,” Tony Bahou, MBS Public Relations manager, said. “But the need for blood is serious business, especially this time of year when blood donations typically go down. Blood donors help us “help make miracles happen” in Mississippi. This promotion is one way to show our appreciation for their commitment to our community.”

 | CRUISING FOR BLOOD
JACKSON, Miss. — For many Mississippi hospital patients, the journey to recovery requires blood or blood products. Since blood cannot be manufactured artificially, the need for blood donors is imperative. People who donate blood are often the lifeline for those who are ill or injured.
To say “thank you” to blood donors, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is promoting a “Cruising for Blood” blood drive promotion. All donors will be registered for a chance to win a five day cruise for two aboard a Carnival Inspiration cruise ship to set sail in the Western Caribbean Sea. | Valentine's Day Blood Drive
Jackson, MS. – It’s that time of year again! WLBT Chief Meteorologist Barbie Bassett will host our annual Valentine's Day blood drive on February 12th at Mississippi Blood Services' Main Center on Lakeland Drive. But we are also partnering with MIX 98.7 and making it a two-day event. All donors will receive a specially designed Marshall Ramsey T-shirt and will be registered for a chance to win a black pearl necklace courtesy Carter Jewelers, plus other great prizes from our friends at the Renaissance including a gift card from Ruth's Chris Steak House, Fresh Market Cafe, Material Girls, Chico's among others.
But the real key winners are the patients in our local hospitals. Without blood donors they would not have a chance.
During the winter months, inclement weather and poor health often prevent donors from giving the gift of life. But the need for blood never stays home. Mississippi Blood Services’ (MBS) mission is to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply to its hospitals so that patients will have blood when they need it.
All donors must be at least 17 year’s old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID.
“Blood donors give hospital patients the gift of life,” said Tony Bahou, MBS Manager of Communications and Public Relations. “They are behind-the-scenes heroes who bring hope to so many Mississippians and their families.”

 | Oxford Donor Coach Ribbon Cutting
Mississippi Blood Services held ribbon cutting ceremony for its new donor coach on Wednesday Sept. 12. The new donor coach was funded by a grant awarded by USDA, Rural Development.
The previous Oxford coach, a revamped Winnebago donated from another non-profit organization, was only able to screen two donors at a time and have two donors in the collection area of the bed unit. The new coach, custom made for MBS provides more space to screen three to four donors at a time and collect blood from five donors.
Lolita Gregory, manager of the Oxford branch of MBS says, “Having the new donor coach here in Oxford means we can better service our blood donors in the community and more importantly, save lives through our efforts.”
